Transparent waste bags mandatory for business waste in Flanders
As of January 1, 2023, transparent waste bags are mandatory for business waste in Flanders.
OVAM (Public Waste Agency of Flanders) introduced this measure in phases: since 2022 for bags larger than 60 litres and from 2023 for all bags, regardless of volume.
Why transparent waste bags?

This measure makes it easier for collectors to quickly detect sorting errors. The requirement only applies to residual business waste that is presented in bags, not to separately collected waste streams. To find out which waste streams must be sorted, visit the OVAM website.

Effective waste management starts with the right solutions
A well-designed waste management approach in your organisation contributes to a better environment, lower costs and increased awareness among employees. BOMA supports you with a high-quality range of waste bins, waste containers and sorting solutions.
Every waste bin requires the right waste bag. BOMA only offers waste bags that comply with current legislation.
Regulation specific to Flanders
This requirement is specific to Flanders, Belgium. In other regions and countries, there is generally no universal obligation to use transparent waste bags, but companies are required to sort their waste in accordance with local regulations.
